LinkedIn continues to be an important social media tool for the professional. Anytime someone is looking to make a contact in business or learn more about you, they turn to LinkedIn. Not only is the social media platform powerful for business professionals, but it’s good for growing your business. According to their site LinkedIn “operates the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with more than 756 million members in more than 200 countries and territories.” Additionally, they grow by two new members per second. So how can you maximize your social presence on LinkedIn?
1. Update or complete your profile
Maybe you need to finally finish or update your professional or business profile on LinkedIn. Pay attention to your profile strength graph. Is it full? The more complete your profile is, the more easier it is for people to find you. Make sure you include a professional profile of yourself, list your skills and complete your summary.
2. Grow your LinkedIn network
Use your current email provider and social media platforms to import existing business contacts and customers to see if they are already on LinkedIn. Make it a habit to regularly check your contacts for people you may want to connect with via LinkedIn. Also, look for LIONS (LinkedIn Open Networkers). These users are open to connecting with anyone and can grow your network quickly.
3. Put your LinkedIn profile everywhere
Promote your profile on other social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Clubhouse). In your email signature and on your website add a hyperlink to your LinkedIn profile. Print it on your business cards, direct mail pieces, brochures, etc.
4. Use LinkedIn Groups to engage with your audiences
You can join a number of professional groups. These could be industry specific or social in nature. Look for groups with a large number of members so you can connect readily with more people.
5. Get recommendations
As always, credibility is king. Getting LinkedIn recommendations is a great way to build trust and credibility on LinkedIn. Word of mouth is still strong online, so look for recommendations and testimonials from happy customers. Karma works here too. The more you recommend others, the more they will recommend you.
6. Participate
Just like any other social media platform, the more you use it the more success you will have. Comment on others posts, add content from your website or blog and share other articles you find online. You’ll see your network grown in no time.
